‘The BPs, too, has stated that clients and the general public are negatively affected by the continued and continuous medicalisation of their natural and normal responses to their experiences…which do not reflect illnesses as much as normal individual variation….’  (guidance for Psychological Therapists revised 2021 page 19)

The Course

This studio day is for counsellors to think through the latest ideas related to prescribed medication and their own personal position in relation to the medical model.

  • We will consider the medical model of depression, in light of recent research and watch experts discuss the use of medication.
  • We will consider current thinking on how to support clients when withdrawing from medication.
  • We will consider the evidence relating to  the possible effects of the main classes of psychiatric drugs.
  • As well as consider the media’s influence on social thinking of mental ill health.

An informative and thought-provoking day to enrich your practice.

(5/5)

I enjoyed going to Dunamis for a studio day as I meet new colleagues and old ones, I found that Sara and Sally offer a good balance between theory and experiential; a good mix of thinking, reflecting and doing. I wish I could attend to their sessions more often. Highly recommend.
